WATER DEMANDS

The total water demand in the basin was evaluated by the Hydrological Plan of the Segura River Basin is approximately 1,759 million cubic metres per year for consumption purposes, detailed as followings:
- An urban demand of 217 million cubic metres per year (a value set down by the Hydrological Plan of the Segura River Basin when drawing it up), 255 million cubic metres per year (a value set down by the Hydrological Plan of the Segura River Basin for the medium term) and 260 million cubic metres per year (a value set down by the Hydrological Plan of the Segura River Basin for the long term). This supply is carried out mainly by the Mancomunidad de los Canales del Taibilla (MCT), which supplies municipalities of the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura as well as those of El Júcar. When the Hydrological Plan of the Segura River Basin calculated the total urban demand of 217 million cubic metres per year, 45 million cubic metres per year were for the Demarcación del Júcar.
- The agricultural demand in the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura is calculated as being 1,571 million cubic metres per year (Hydrological Plan of the Segura River Basin). It is predicted that this demand will remain stable, the Hydrological Plan of the Segura River Basin not considering increases in irrigable land in the basin.
- The industrial demand not connected with the municipal networks or of the Mancomunidad de los Canales del Taibilla was considered in the Hydrological Plan of the Segura River Basin as being 23 million cubic metres per year when it was drawn up, and 38 million cubic metres per year for the medium and long terms. Of these demands, nearly 31.38% are applied in the Demarcación del Júcar.
